In 2010 zag ik deze jurk van het merk Not The Same (NTS) in de webshop van Wehkamp.
Als ik goed naar de plaatjes kijk kan ik hem misschien wel namaken, dacht ik.
In 2010 I shaw this Not The Same dress in the Wehkamp webshop.
Maybe I can reproduce this by looking closely to the photo’s, I thought.
Ik kocht bolletjes katoen in deze kleuren, want de originele kleuren vond ik niet zo mooi. (Donkerblauw had ik nog.)
I bought balls of cotton yarn in these colors, because I did not like the original colors much. (I already had dark blue.)
En ik ging aan de slag.
Ik kon wel aardig haken, maar ik miste de noodzakelijke technische kennis om het goed te doen.
In de eerste plaats had ik niet de juiste haaknaald, want toen ik enkele onderdelen naast elkaar legde zag ik dat de jurk minstens maat 52 zou gaan worden.
Alles uitgehaald en opnieuw begonnen met een dunnere haaknaald.
Maar ik moest alles uitzoeken: hoe haak je een mooie cirkel, een halve cirkel, een vierkant etc.
Leuk, die verschillende kleuren, maar hoe maak je zo mooi mogelijke overgangen?
Als ik er niet uitkwam ging ik pas op internet kijken en dan moest er weer van alles uitgehaald worden.
Then I started.
I could crochet rather well, but I missed the necessary technological knowledge to make a good piece of crochet work.
In the first place the hook that I used was too big. When I placed some of the parts next to each other I saw that the dress would become way too big.
So I ripped out everything and started again with a thinner hook.
And I had to sort out everything: how to crochet a flat circle, a half circle, a solid square etc.
Nice, those colors, but how to add a new color as nice as possible?
Too late I started to search the internet so I had to rip out parts once more.
Toen begon ik eraan te twijfelen of ik ooit een passende jurk zou kunnen maken zonder patroon. (Zelfs met een patroon is dat moeilijk...)
De jurk leek zo simpel, maar een kledingstuk moet nu eenmaal passen. En als dat niet het geval is, dan draag je het niet.
Alle bolletjes + beginnetjes in een plastic tas gedaan en onderin de linnenkast gestopt.
Then I began to doubt if I would be able to make a fitting dress without a pattern. (Even with a pattern that’s difficult...)
The dress looked so simple, but a garment has to fit. If not, you are not going to wear it.
I put all the yarn and the pieces I already had in a plastic bag and stowed the bag away under in the linnen closet.
