Eenvoudige vingerloze wantjes (of polswarmers) / Simple fingerless mitts (or wrist warmers)

Hallo!
Ik ben weer even terug.

Zie volgende blogbericht.
Hello!
I am back for now.
I really don’t know if this means that I will go on with my blog.
But I want to share my pattern for fingerless gloves.

Last year I crocheted several pairs of wrist warmers.
When I looked for some yarn I discovered a pair that was not finished.
I tried to finish it, but I did not remember what size hook I used.
The second warmer turned out looser than the first.
So I had to recrochet one of them.
That gave me the opportunity to write down what I was doing.
And that made it easy to add the pattern to my blog.
See next blogpost.

Succes!
I love fingerless mitts. For years now I put them on as soon as it starts to be colder.
I can keep them on while locking my bike, doing grocery shopping, checking out etc. because they leave my fingers free and yet they are surprisingly warm.
And because you don’t have to take them off there is a no risk of loosing them!
Maybe you like to make a pair?

What do you need?
You can easily make them form some left over yarn.
I used two strands of thin acrylic yarn in two colors
A 5mm hook.
A darning needle.

What stitches did I use?
  • chain stitch (ch)
  • half double crochet (hdc)
By using half double crochet stitches you create a nice stretchy fabric.

How do you make them?
These wrist warmers are crocheted lengthwise.
Chain 30 chain stitches + two for the first half double crochet.
First row: Turn and make the first hdc in the third stitch from the hook, make 29 half double crochet stitches, so in total that should be 30 stitches.
(Of course you can make your wrist warmers smaller or bigger, that depends on what you like.
Tip! Do not make them too long, because you have to tuck them in in your coat sleeves, and that can be a nuisance when you are wearing a winter sweater underneath.)

Second to tenth row: 30 half double crochets in the front or the back loops of the stitches in the first row.

Now you have to make a thumb hole: crochet 18 stitches (hdc), then chain 6 and skip 6 stitches, then crochet the last 6 stitches of the row.
Next row: start with 6 hdc, then crochet 6 hdc in the 6 chain stitches and finish the row.
(Try on to see if the thumb hole is in the right place for you.)
Then continue with another 10 rows.

Check if the glove/wrist warmer fits around your hand. If not, adjust.
Don’t make them too big, because they will stretch when wearing. When they are too loose they feel sloppy and are not warm anymore.
Sew the seam (or crochet using a half single crochet stich). The seam shoud be at the small side of your hand.
Weave the yarn ends in and make another one just like the first one.
Good luck!
